The lead poisoning happens when there is continuous exposure to lead related substances or environment. These are the main sources from which the lead is injected or transmitted in to the blood stream of individuals unknowingly. The presence of lead can be detected by analyzing the blood of the concerned individual. Children are highly prone to lead poisoning than adults in all respects. Children always play outdoors in muddy and dirty environments. Lead is abundantly associated in these sources and children easily get absorbed with these poisonous lead. If lead is ingested in to the body, the symptoms cannot be traced out instantly. Considerable time frame is needed for the symptoms to be exhibited if the lead poison is absorbed into the body of an individual. Hence, if anybody has doubt regarding the lead poisoning, it will be better to under go treatments immediately than waiting for the symptoms to be developed later.
Since contamination is the reason for the lead poisoning the treatment can be started by eradicating the sources of contamination or exposure. Then, there are some precautions to be carried out properly to avoid further contamination. First thing to be done is to wash the hands before eating or drinking. The eating and drinking must be strictly from lead free environments. Another step in the process of treatment is to wear respirator capable to filter contaminated air. It will be better to wear separate clothes, shoes and masks for individuals engaged in lead associated works. Then the original dress should be kept in a very clean place free from all types of contamination. They have to take proper bath after work or before going home and wash the clothes at the work place separately with proper rinsing. In the case of children parents should take keen interest to wash their hands properly before eating or drinking. Parents should also do their best to keep away their children from lead prone environment. Try maximum to discourage children from using the toys containing lead contaminated paint. If these steps are followed very strictly the lead poisoning can be reduced to a great extent.
If the lead content is not decreasing even after the application of these steps, then the individual can go beyond the regular treatment process. The treatment called Chelation therapy is commonly employed to treat the lead content in the blood stream of individuals. In this treatment, the doctors recommend medicines which can tackle the lead constituent and ejects through urine. The deficiency of iron content in the blood may also develop a tendency to absorb more lead content from the environment. But care should be taken to avoid iron deficiency treatment simultaneously while Chelation treatments were going on, because the chelating agents also eject iron content together with lead. Hence the iron deficiency treatment should be carried out either before or after the Chelation treatment.
The next alternative treatment is EDTA therapy. Blood lead levels above 45mcg/dL are treated with the help of this treatment. The chemical element Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic Acid is used here to treat the abnormal lead content. But this treatment is not adequate to correct the damages developed by the excess lead content. By considering the dangerous situation creating by the lead absorption, the best treatment is to avoid environments contaminated with poisonous lead. Every individual should encourage their family members and the whole society to follow up this precaution to escape from the drastic side effects of lead poisoning.
